The press has difficulty describing Moxie. Warm adjectives like “Effervescent” and “Soulful” are used to characterize the band’s comforting indie-rock; yet, with two full length LPs and 75k monthly listeners on Spotify, few can put into words just what makes their sound so addictive. Nestled atop head-bobbing backbeats, funky guitar voicings share the spotlight with melodic, bouncing basslines to create rich, indulgent instrumentation that only Rei Kimura’s eminent croon could occupy. An amalgamation of the four’s musicianship and passion produce shimmering ingenuity that truly, unambiguously, sounds of Moxie.
